He is also about to marry the love of his life in a couple of months. He has a lot to live for. \nMatt has been battling bowel cancer for just under a year and despite surgery and chemo\, his latest scan shows that the cancer has spread into his liver and stomach lining. His cancer team have said although there is the option of trying a different type of chemo\, they don’t hold out much hope that it will cure him and is likely to at best extend his life a little. \nEssentially\, Matt has almost exhausted the options available on the NHS. But his family and friends aren’t ready to give up on him. \nOn the recommendation of his cancer team\, they have sent away a sample of the tumour to the USA to be genetically sequenced which will give the maximum amount of information on its make up. This will then show the cancer team exactly what drugs to use to damage it – to either slow it down\, or there is just a small chance that they may be able to kill it. \nThe only access to this treatment is via the private route which is going to be expensive. Just the sequencing is a little under £3k and any drugs will apparently be about £3k a month after that. The family will fund what they can\, and have so far raised over £70k in a crowdfunder for a ‘fighting fund’ but this is potentially a real money pit. \nWithout any treatment\, his cancer team have told Matt he won’t make it past the end of this year. With the access to sequencing\, if it turns out to be something specific they have drugs for\, he may have a 15% chance of survival. That has to be worth a shot. \nIn addition to the crowdfunder\, there are now five benefit concerts being held across the U.K. in May and June\, and we are very pleased to be one of them. \nThe day will have performances from many artists\, including\nElles Bailey\, Laurence Jones\, Greg Coulson\, Mike Rosse\, Alice Armstrong\, True Strays\, Martin Abrahams Band\, Demi Marriner and Thomas Heppell. \nDoors will open at 12pm\, gig will start at 1pm. Gig is expected to end at 10.30pm. Writing their own shatteringly powerful lyrics set to music that has inspired critics to write about how 3am ‘defines what the Blues is all about’\, they happily mix these new songs in with subtle re-arrangements of classic songs from the likes of Big Mama Thornton\, Etta James\, Janis Joplin\, Nina Simone\, Ray Charles and Tina Turner\, along with more modern favourites from Paul Weller\, Duffy\, Portishead\, Beth Hart\, Imelda May\, Alana Morriset\, Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse . Constantly pushing the boundaries of what is generally recognised as ‘The Blues’ – endlessly creative – this experienced band will have you rocking away to new songs you feel are already etched into your bones! \n\nThe band has its roots in the rock scene of the 1970’s\, which is when brothers Tim and Andy Renton were the driving force behind rock band ‘Reign’ in London. They went on to join Mike Batt and performed as the Wombles on Top of the Pops nine times\, touring Europe for radio and TV\, including 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. In 2004 they joined up again to start 3am which became a six-piece\, with buddy Chris Parren (ex-Strawbs and SO many others!) on keys.

SUMMARY:Live Music - Doc K's Blues Band
DESCRIPTION:Free Entry \nBands come and bands go\, some refuse to give up gracefully\, some leave us wanting more\, and then there’s the bands who have always been there\, never disappointing\, always finding that sweet spot with audiences wherever they play. Ladies and gentlemen\, I give you Doc K’s Blues Band. \n\nHailing from the North London Delta\, the original line up of the band was formed by folk legend Ashley Hutchins and former John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers guitarist Geoff Krivit. There have been almost as many line up changes over time as Triggers Broom has had new heads and handles\, with original harmonica player Mick Haase finally quitting about ten years ago. Since then\, a constant through it all has been singer/slide guitarist Dave Barnes\, who’s searing vocals compliment his raw\, passionate slide perfectly. Occupying the drum stool for thirty years is shuffle master Mick Parker. With long term guitarist Malcolm Hine retiring in September 2023\, the current lineup of Doc K’s features Dave Thomas (Low Down Dogs\, House Red) on bass\, and the powerhouse voice and harmonica of Chris Hargrave (The Bluerays\, The Flying Ducks\, The Looters among others) sharing up front duties with Mr Barnes. Joining them on guitar is newest recruit Dr Ika (Grapevine Blues\, Dr Ika’s Pharmacy)\, yes\, for the first time in the band’s long history\, they have an actual Doctor in the line up. \n\nThis refreshed and revitalised line up is bringing a new enthusiasm to the band as is evident by the smiles and energy on display at recent gigs. \n\nA Doc K’s gig will give you exactly what it says on the tin\, a night of classic Chicago Blues\, delivered with the drive and commitment you would expect from such a stellar lineup of seasoned pro’s.
